Start up of the BYSA company

One of the main objectives of the Gotaverde project is the developement of a sustainable company that organizes the production chain and the distribution of the biofuels.

The  Consultative Assembly of BYSA (Biofuel Company in Yoro Limited) was held on March 1, 2008. In May, the company was established as a legal entity.

BYSA is the central coordinating unit of the biofuel production chain in Yoro. BYSA coordinates the following activities.
 Funding: BYSA issued credits to farmers in kind and shall retrieve this credit in the form of farm output (oilseeds). Credits are issued as much as possible in kind (seeds, plants, soil preparation, and fertilizer). Likewise, the farmers repay debt through farm output (dried seeds).
 Processing: BYSA is responsible for oil extraction, filtration and - for part of the production - transesterification  into biodiesel. For a complete summary of the products and by-products produced by BYSA, go to the section on Processing .
 Marketing: BYSA inserts the final products, as much as possible into the local market. Yoro currently depends on external supplies of large quantities of fuel, electricity, concentrates for livestock and fertilizers. BYSA is expected to replace part of this demand with local product.

The Consultative Assembly of BYSA was held on March 1, 2008. The share capital of the company is Lps. 104 000, made available through the contributions of 61 founding partners. This capital is distributed as follows: FUNDER 51%, feedstock producers 49%. The Administrative Council is composed of 13 members.

The minimum requirements to become a shareholder of BYSA are:
(a) Buy at least 10 shares of 100 Lempiras each. Members with lesser economic means are allowed to pay gradually, with the option to pay through seed production;
(b) Own at least 1 ha of oilseed crops; and
(c) Must own the land of which feedstock is cultivated.
The act stipulates that no shareholder, except FUNDER, can own more than 5% of the company`s shares (BYSA).

 BYSA must ensure business continuity in the production chain of the biofuels. FUNDER will follow up BYSA, as well after the projects completion in late 2009.

Later on, these businesses could also benefit from cheap credit vouchers.
